The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in 2024. However, after free agency and offseason moves, their team could look very different in 2025. They could look to upgrade in the bullpen as they try and repeat as champions.
While listing landing spots for Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer named the Dodgers as the ninth-best landing spot.
"The Dodgers have had a revolving door at closer ever since Kenley Jansen left town after 2021," wrote Rymer. "If they'd rather have something solid there, they could do worse than Williams."
The Brewers declined Devin Williams' $10.5 million option for 2025. He is still with the team, however, it's the final year of his deal and with a lower salary he is now a trade candidate. Williams is a two-time All-Star and a two-time Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year Award winner. Spotrac projects him to sign a five-year, $70 million deal when he hits free agency.
Rymer predicts Evan Phillips or Michael Kopech to serve as the team's closer as of now. Williams would be a significant upgrade, but a closer may not be that high on the Dodgers' list of needs. The Brewers likely won't pay Williams when he hits the market, but the Dodgers may get it done.
"Still, we're talking about more of a nice-to-have than a must-have," wrote Rymer. "L.A. has bigger fish to fry, specifically re-signing Teoscar Hernández and addressing shortstop and its rotation."
