Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes didn't reunite in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2
Before the release of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2, the events in Season 1, especially the mystery about Carol's radio message had many viewers speculating a reunion between Daryl and his best friend. In Season 1 Episode 5, Daryl connected with Carol through the radio to check in.
As the two try to talk through the radio, we hear Carol saying "Come back", hinting that someone has come back. Since Carol's voice was unclear, Daryl couldn't hear what she meant by that. The season ended without revealing who came back and fans kept on guessing about Rick reuniting with Daryl in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2.
However, in the latest season's episode four "La Paradis Pour Toi", Daryl finally asked Carol about what she meant by those words, to which she explained that it wasn't about any of their allies or friends, but her feelings. Carol was expressing her unease about living in the Commonwealth without Daryl Dixon.
So, it wasn't about Rick Grimes reuniting with Daryl Dixon. Now that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 has finally ended, viewers are excited for the next chapter of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and hoping to see Rick before the spin-off series concludes.
Exploring Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon's friendship in The Walking Dead
Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes has played a huge role in shaping Daryl Dixon's journey in The Walking Dead. Initially, Daryl doesn't trust Rick, especially after finding out that a former police officer left Merle (Daryl's brother) chained on a rooftop to die.
However, Daryl gradually began to understand Rick and developed respect and admiration for him. He started seeing him as a great leader and eventually became one of his greatest allies in The Walking Dead. The two formed a deep brotherly bond and soon became a fan-favorite duo in the AMC TV series.
Daryl felt proud in calling Rick his brother, and Rick felt the same way and built an unbreakable trust, which was tested during the final battle with The Saviors. Daryl and Rick had different ways of approaching the situation which even led to a physical fight. However, after cooling down, the two didn't take much time to reconcile, realizing their strong camaraderie.
In the original series, Rick was presumed dead after a bridge explosion. This incident left Daryl devasted by the loss of being separated from his brother, mentor, and a real friend. Despite others telling him that Rick is dead, Daryl doesn't actually believe them and keeps on searching for him.
Now, following the spin-off series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, many fans eagerly wait for Carol to reveal to Daryl that his best friend is still alive. Though The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 didn't feature this much awaited moment, it is definitely expected to happen before the spin-off ends.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon's showrunner is hopeful for Rick and Daryl's reunion
Following the much needed expansion of The Walking Dead universe, there's a slight chance that we may actually get to see Daryl meeting Rick, all thanks to the spin-off series' showrunner David Zabe, who like every TWD fan, is hopeful about the awaited moment.
During the San Diego Comic-Con panel discussion, David Zabe talked about Rick and Daryl finding a way to reconnect as part of the spin-off storyline. As per ScreenRant, the showrunner said:
"We’re still figuring out [Daryl Dixon] season 3. The best I can say is really, some time in the future, I think it’s safe to say on Scott [Gimple's] behalf that we hope that the characters will find ways to reconnect."
While Norman Reedus has reprised his role in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2, Andrew Lincoln's character, Rick also had a spin-off series which was titled The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, in which his and Michonne's story took a positive turn.
The Walking Dead universe isn't ending anytime soon and is here to stay for quite some time, which makes it a real possibility for die-hard fans of the show to witness and enjoy Daryl and Rick's reunion in the future.
Reedus' series has now been renewed for Season 3, and it has been reported that production is currently in the works.
