Eagles Face Setback as Key Receiver Set to Miss Extended Time

The Philadelphia Eagles secured a hard-fought 15-12 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday during Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season, after a back-and-forth defensive battle.

Saquon Barkley proved to be the difference-maker in the fourth quarter, carrying the Eagles' offense by rushing 17 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns. His 65-yard rushing touchdown sparked the Eagles' scoring, leading them to a come-from-behind win after trailing for most of the game.

While the Eagles will be thrilled with Barkley's heroics and the win, they weren't able to escape without injury troubles.

One of the more significant injuries was to wide receiver and punt return specialist Britain Covey.

According to Eagles play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese, Covey suffered a broken bone in his shoulder and is expected to miss at least six weeks.

Although the Eagles haven't officially confirmed Covey's injury, he is likely headed to injured reserve, where he would be required to miss at least four weeks.

In 2023, Covey emerged as one of the top punt returners in the NFL, finishing second in the league with an impressive 14.4-yard average per return.

This injury comes at a difficult time for the Eagles, who are already dealing with a depleted wide receiver corps. A.J. Brown has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury and DeVonta Smith suffered a concussion after a controversial hit in the Saints game.

This leaves only Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson as the two healthy receivers on the Eagles' active roster.
