A new deal appears to be on the horizon for Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.
The Eagles have been signing extensions left and right this offseason. Philadelphia gave star running back Saquon Barkley a historic new deal in March. Days later, the team rewarded All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson with an additional year on his deal.
Based on a recent quote from Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, Sirianni may be next. The 73-year-old business mogul was asked about Sirianni during the annual league meetings. While Lurie didn’t explicitly say a Sirianni extension was on deck, he confirmed Nick would be the team’s coach “going forward.”
“Nick is going to be our coach,” said Lurie, via ESPN’s Tim McManus. “We don’t talk publicly [about contracts], we never have, but you guys I’m sure will find out soon enough that Nick will be our coach going forward … He has done an outstanding job.”
The only way Sirianni would be the Eagles’ coach beyond this season would be for the two sides to agree on a new deal. The 43-year-old head coach is in the final year of a five-year pact he signed in 2021.
Sirianni led the Eagles to an outstanding 48-20 record in the four regular seasons since taking charge of the team. But several critics were clamoring for Sirianni’s firing not too long ago.
With a Super Bowl victory now on his resume, the doubts surrounding Sirianni have all but evaporated.
