Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson will be entering another NFL season at 34 years old. He is one of the veterans of this football team. Johnson will have to be the main leader on the offensive line with Jason Kelce retiring.
It also does not help the Philadelphia Eagles that they will also miss Fletcher Cox’s leadership on the defensive side of the football. Philadelphia struggled down the stretch and it caused them to flame out in the NFC Wild Card Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 2024 NFL season will be a brand new challenge to the Eagles. They hope they can win the NFC East once again and prove that last season’s downward spiral was a fluke and not a sign of bad things to come for them.
Philadelphia Eagles Lane Johnson Makes Bold Take About the Upcoming 2024 NFL Season
On Monday, Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson went onto The Insiders on NFL Network. He understands what is at stake during the 2024 season. There will also be some different things about this football team entering the 2024 season.
Johnson said on The Insiders:
“We have a lot of new faces, a lot of turnover. But [I] felt comfortable with the way we drafted. Got some great players. And really when you look at our roster, we have a lot of size. Obviously we have to go prove things and are eager to do so. But when you just look at the guys walking around the building, we’ve got size, we’ve got speed, and guys willing to work.”
On paper, the Eagles might have the most talent in the NFC East. It is going to depend a lot on the defense this season. They drafted cornerback Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and defensive back Cooper DeJean from Iowa in the second round.
Mitchell will be one of the starting cornerbacks on the Eagles roster this season alongside Darius Slay. James Bradberry was demoted to the second string. As for DeJean, he is projected to be a backup safety on the Eagles’ depth chart.
Another new face that Philadelphia will bring is running back Saquon Barkley. He has played for the New York Giants since the 2018 season and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an NFL free agent. Lane Johnson will be looking forward to blocking for him and opening up running lanes.
He will replace D’Andre Swift, who went to the Chicago Bears this offseason. It might take time for the Eagles to gel this season but if they miss the playoffs, heads will begin to roll once again.
