The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Pro Bowler linebacker Devin White to a one-year deal this past offseason, but he's already on his way out.
The team has decided to release the 26-year-old, per Adam Schefter. He didn't play a single game for the Birds in 2024.
Nakobe Dean beat out White for a starting spot in the Eagles defense during training camp, resulting in the former LSU product watching from the sidelines for the entire campaign so far.
White was the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft by the Tampa Buccaneers and went on to be a star for the organization. From 2020-2022, White had a minimum of 120 combined tackles in each season.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2021, the same year the Bucs won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady under center. White has 23 total sacks in five NFL seasons and started all but one game for Tampa before leaving in free agency.
Last month, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio made it clear that Dean played better than White leading up to Week 1. Via the team website:
"I just think from the start of Training Camp to the end, he won the job," Fangio said.
White could be a nice pickup for a team looking for another quality pass-rusher.
