The Philadelphia Eagles have added a wide receiver to the nest. Don't get too excited. This decision is a head scartcher. Terrace Marshall is the new guy.
Some of you remember him. He was part of one of the greatest offenses in college football history as a teammate of Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and company at LSU with the College Football Playoff National Championship-winning Tigers.
Marshall was drafted 59th overall, during Round 2 of the NFL Draft, by the Carolina Panthers. After three years, they parted ways. He's since spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders. He now finds his new home in Philadelphia.
Are we missing something with this Terrace Marshall signing?
Okay, Howie Roseman asked for patience. We get that, and we respect that. He's earned it, but this one is hard for us to wrap our heads around. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Philly adds Mr. Marshall by way of a one-year deal.
With all due respect, we aren't overjoyed about this one. Philly drafted Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson in 2024. Neither has fueled an adrenaline rush yet. Jahan Doston made the most of his opportunities, but Marshall wasn't who we were thinking about when we began expressing our desires that the Birds add depth to their wide receiver room.
Sometimes, things don't work out as you think they should. When we watched the LSU Tigers evolve from their typical 'three yards and a cloud of dust' nature to become one of the most prolific aerial shows in college football, several thoughts went through our minds.
One of those thoughts was we believed Marshall might go on to produce a fairly solid pro career. So far, that hasn't happened. His resume consists of four professional seasons, 67 receptions, 808 yards, and a single receiving TD.
Howie has everything under control. Never question that, but again, we can't wrap our minds around this one. We hope we're wrong, but we don't believe we are.
