Eagles WR A.J. Brown sends message to trash-talking rookie

Ex-Toledo standout and Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell isn't known to be much of a trash-talker, but he spoke up while going one-on-one with explosive star wideout A.J. Brown during mandatory minicamp.

Eagles WR A.J. Brown sends message to trash-talking rookie

Following a rep, Mitchell told Brown that the route he'd just run was "trash," prompting the Pro Bowl receiver to share some wisdom.

"He's not going to be playing against me, he's going to be playing against other guys, and I want to see him hold his own," Brown said. "I told him, 'You took the first step, but now you gotta back it up. You gonna have to walk that walk.'"

Clearly, Brown admired the first-year corner's confidence, admitting he liked Mitchell's feistiness while he smiled ear to ear. However, despite the knowledge shared, the competitive juices are still flowing for the league's fifth-leading receiver from last season.

After revealing the rookie's quick wit, Brown said he looked forward to their next encounter on the practice field.

It's only OTAs, but Mitchell has already garnered first-team reps. Along with Brown, several veterans have been impressed with his showing thus far, with defensive end Brandon Graham saying, "He's as advertised."

Considered one of the top cornerback prospects available in this year's NFL Draft, many expected Mitchell to be off the board early. Instead, the two-time All-American fell to the Eagles at No. 22.

Former All-Pro Darius Slay may be the only guaranteed starter among the Eagles' cornerback ranks. That means Mitchell will undoubtedly have a chance to battle for playing time on the outside with veteran James Bradberry, who might see a move to safety and Isaiah Rodgers, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts.
