Ex-Chiefs Receiver Arrested on Horrific Charges, Bail Set At $50K

Controversial former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver, Kadarius Toney, has just had some very troublesome accusations come to light on Wednesday.

Chiefs Announce Update On Kadarius Toney Heading Into Super Bowl - The Spun

The former University of Florida speedster was arrested last week and charged with strangulation, according to TMZ.

The former All-American was “accused of putting his hand around a woman’s throat during a dispute at a Georgia residence on Jan. 14 … and squeezing “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath,” TMZ reported.

Doctors revealed that this lead to marks on her body including her neck – whilst the allegations state that Toney prevented the accuser from being able to call 911, taking her phone with him.

Bail was set at a total of $50,000, $25,000 for each of the two counts of strangulation, and obstructing a 911 call.

It turns out that this all is not completely breaking news in a sense; in fact the warrant for Toney’s arrest went out on January 15, and he was jailed on February 6 – almost a week before it hit the news cycle on Wednesday.

Kadarius Toney’s Career Went Downhill Before It Could Ever Get Going

Kadarius Toney was once simply a college prospect with oodles of talent, and after being drafted by the New York Giants in 2021, was poised to become one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons.

However, an uninspiring rookie season lead to his departure mid way through year 2, where he landed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Even the near-lethal combination of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid were unable to do much to salvage Toney’s career, where he recorded just 340 yards in two seasons with the team before being released last August, amidst some strange pre-Super Bowl antics earlier on in the year.

Prior to the AFC Championship game in Baltimore, Toney was ruled out with a hip injury. Yet, the Super Bowl champion then went on Instagram live to decry that he’s “not hurt”. It then came out that he was actually referring to his time with the Giants, and not the Chiefs, but the damage was already done.

Toney spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns, on their practice squad. Upon being promoted to the active roster for Week 14 against the Steelers, he fumbled a punt in what was his only notable contribution to the game, and was subsequently cut days later.

What Is Next For Kadarius Toney?

Toney is not the hot commodity he was three years ago, and with character issues and poor performances having already stifled his once promising career prospects, it seems like after this his career may well and truly be over in professional football.

After his disastrous stint in Cleveland, Tone was unlikely to be signed by any franchise to be a starter or featured role player, but it is likely he would have ended up on a team’s 90 man training camp roster come August – particularly given his exceptional natural gifts.

At this point, even that feels unlikely, pending the result of the investigation and the final verdict.

If Toney is cleared of all charges, there is perhaps a road back for him to land on a practice squad this autumn. If he is found guilty, he’s highly unlikely to play on any NFL team ever again.
