Fortnite Reveals Walking Dead Crossover, Adding Negan, Lucille, & Comic Book Visual Effect

Fortnite has had a lot of crossovers since its huge release back in 2017, and soon, players will be able to live out their Walking Dead dreams, as the franchise's infamous villain Negan (along with his trusty bat Lucille) and a new comic book visual effect are coming to the game. However, much more is coming than just a new character and weapon in this crossover, and fans and creators are going to have as much zombie content to enjoy as they could possibly sink their teeth into.

According to Epic Games, Negan will be available for purchase in the Fortnite Shop on April 4 as a fully playable character, and Fortnite Creative users can add him as an NPC to their maps beginning April 8. Lucille, Negan's iconic barbed-wired bat, will also be added as a new weapon, and it will allow quick strikes, an overhead smash, and a baseball swing attack.

Additionally, a new Shiva Shotgun Ranged Weapon will be incorporated into the game. Along with Negan and these weapons, the crossover will also introduce a new comic book-inspired shader in Fortnite Creative, which can give maps the famous black-and-white style of The Walking Dead comics, and templates for a Walker NPC and a Prison Starter Island map.

This Walking Dead Fortnite Content Is Much More Than A New Character

Starting today, players can start creating their own crossover Islands with The Walking Dead assets using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Fortnite Creative. Players will then be able to publish their own The Walking Dead Islands via the Creator Portal beginning May 16. As Epic Games describes, The Walking Dead assets could be used by players to make "role-playing survival RPGs, prison escape roguelikes, chaotic free-for-all shoot ‘em ups" and other types of experiences.

While Fortnite crossovers are nothing new, the new Walking Dead content should allow creators to craft some unique zombie fun, and this is a much bigger crossover than some previous ones, like Mariah Carey's arrival in Fortnite back in December.

Big Franchises Have Further Potential To Expand Through Fortnite

Fortnite Lets Players Mess Around In Other Fictional Worlds

This Walking Dead crossover is more substantial than the majority of Fortnite crossovers, but even some exposure, via a new character or in-game tool, allows for big franchises to get ever bigger. Mortal Kombat's Sub-Zero recently joined Fortnite as a playable character, and Gundams came to Fortnite in a similar Island experience late last year. Other massive franchises like SawHalloween, and Street Fighter have also dipped their toes in the Fortnite crossover pool.

However, this significant update featuring The Walking Dead shows that crossovers could be more than just skins and the occasional weapon. With the features that Fortnite Creative provides, the potential for big franchises to get even bigger through user-made creations seems virtually endless in Fortnite.
