As per the injury report, Anthony Davis is listed as out due to left adductor strain. The Mavericks currently hold a slightly better record at 32 wins and 29 losses, but Davis’ absence makes it concerning. However, he is not the only one on the injury list. P.J. Washington is also out with a right ankle sprain.

Additionally, both Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II are also out of the roster due to right knee sprain and right ankle stress fracture respectively. Caleb Martin listed as out as well due to right hip strain.

However, the Mavericks enter this contest with an average of 115 points per game, good enough to rank 11th in the NBA. Defensively, they give up 113.4 points per game, placing them 16th in the league. This season, the Mavericks have struggled somewhat at home offensively, averaging 114.5 points compared to 115.5 on the road.

Mavericks Sign Anthony Davis Backup Amid Injury Woes

Ever since the Mavericks signed Anthony Davis, his injury has kept the management worried. And as his health remains the foremost concern for the front office, the Mavs have decided to add a backup.

Dallas is taking proactive measures by signing former 2021 first-round pick Kai Jones to a two-way deal. With key players Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively, and Davis sidelined, the Mavericks are in urgent need of personnel to fill the void in their frontcourt. Davis’s injury, particularly following an impressive debut for the team, places additional pressure on the Mavericks.

And as they aim to maintain competitiveness during a crucial point in the season, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Jones, a talent known for his 6-foot-11 frame and athleticism, has shown promise throughout his career. Though he had some inconsistencies attributable to off-court issues, the rest is fine from his side.

He was originally drafted 19th overall by the Charlotte Hornets, but Jones faced limited playing opportunities while playing in his third season in the NBA. His career averages of 2.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game, along with a shooting percentage of 60% from the field. Now, as he joins the Mavericks, Jones has an opportunity to make the most out of his time on the court.
