Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, silencing countless critics in the process.
Hurts finished the championship game with 221 yards and two touchdowns on 17/22 passing. The dual-threat quarterback also led the team in rushing with 72 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.
This performance was enough to earn Hurts Super Bowl MVP, and some apologies from critics around the league.
2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton is one of the Hurts critics who've since apologized for their previous takes. During the most recent episode of his "4th & 1" podcast, Newton sent a strong message to the Eagles QB — calling him the "most disrespected football player" in the league.
“I’m not too good to say that I [expletive] and I made a mistake," Newton said.
“Does this put him in elite status?” he continued. “I think so. I think so. And it’s not because of his overall body of work. It’s game-by-game body of work. I don’t think nobody wants to see a Jalen Hurts or play against him.”
“I’ve been extremely, extremely, you know, analytical about who Jalen Hurts is,” Newton added. “Calling him a game manager, calling him a person that: Is he top 10? He’s a guy who plays within himself, and the way he plays is not what we’re used to seeing."
Hurts, 26, is now preparing for his sixth season with the Eagles. While he's faced some serious criticism over the course of his NFL career so far, that criticism should die down as he enters 2025 as the reigning Super Bowl MVP.
