James Harrison says the Steelers threw him a cold shoulder when asking about a coaching role

James Harrison will go down as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Black and Gold.

James Harrison of Pittsburgh Steelers takes away kids' participation trophies, says awards must be earned - ESPN

A 5x Pro Bowler, 2x first-team All-Pro, DPOY, and of course, two-time Super Bowl champion, his resume speaks for itself.

So if anyone has the pedigree to become a coach in the NFL, but especially for the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's James Harrison.

But the franchise doesn't feel the same way, or at least, not yet:

Steelers Didn't Respond to Harrison's Coaching Request

"Let's just say I put a feeler out there, but I got no response", Harrison said during Sunday's live stream Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals on Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger. Harrison was then seen showing Big Ben his phone under the desk, where he added "crickets, after that," as he showed Ben his screen. Roethlisberger and Harrison exchanged a look and Ben said, "yea, of course."

So what exactly happened between Harrison and the Steelers will likely stay under wraps, but it does seem fairly odd for the team to ghost a player who is in their ring of honor and could be wearing a gold jacket in the near future.

Sure Harrison doesn't have NFL coaching experience, but we see him at training camp in Latrobe nearly every year, where he takes time to help mold the next group of Steelers pass rushers.

And as he and Ben would go on to add, players tend to have a special yearning for coaches who have played the game, but especially at the highest level. Just Harrison's presnsce brings a special level of command and respect to a room, mich less his knowledge and coaching potential.

So hopefully it's all water under the bridge and everyone is on good terms. And you never know, with the way the Steelers season is going, plenty of names could be in line for a promotion, leaving a potential opening for Harrison along the coaching staff.
