Kadarius Toney was part of one of the most shocking sports stories of the year so far when news broke on Wednesday that he had had a warrant out for his arrest since mid-January, with the former Kansas City Chiefs receiver finally being jailed on February 6 at a $50,000 total bail.
On January 14, Toney was accused of strangling a woman – his pregnant girlfriend – to the point that she was not able to breathe, and subsequently was said to have prevented said woman from calling the police – taking her phone with him.
TMZ now reports that on Thurday – a day after the news broke of the incident, Toney has finally broken his silence.
In a now deleted Instagram story, Toney issued a statement of sorts about his arrest.

In the story, Toney notes that people will “say anything when they think they right” and that “they believe anything…Long as it’s bad”.
Presumably, this would imply that Toney believes that there is another side to the story that is not being covered by the media.
Whilst this could be true, until more facts come to light, there is little to go off beyond police and jail records.
And, under what was likely legal advice, Toney made the decision to remove the post from his story.
What is Next For Kadarius Toney?
No formal statement or release has been issued by Toney or his legal team regarding the matter, but the informal public note implies a strong belief of innocence.
At this point, avoiding punitive legal action will be the #1 priority for the former Chiefs wide receiver – with future playing considerations a distant, distant secondary concern.
Even before this noteworthy incident, it was fully possible that the former first round pick’s career in the NFL was over after just four years.
Starting out with the New York Giants, Toney was traded to Kansas City for a third rounder, but was unable to muster any production of note, generating only 340 receiving yards amidst a KC career marred by poor on-field decision making and constant drops.
On a team that had very little in the form of productive perimeter weapons, Toney was still unable to establish himself as a regular contributor – finding the end zone just three times in 20 games.
Although he made splash plays in the 2022 Super Bowl, where the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35 – the first time the two met in the Super Bowl prior to their rematch last week – he failed to consistently deliver without subsequently hindering the team.
And after an even worse stint in Cleveland, that did not even have the excuse of being injury hit like his time at the Chiefs, he has remained a free agent since December.
No court date is publicly available, but one imagines that regardless of the outcome, Toney’s NFL career is likely over. Yet, despite the horrific allegations, it feels that we have seen players come back from almost everything – so who knows.
