Training camp can be a time for players to have some fun, especially after making a nice play against a teammate. And Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kaiir Elam took full advantage of an opportunity given to him on Saturday. Elam snagged an interception off quarterback Dak Prescott, which allowed the party to begin.
Securing the INT near the sideline, Elam’s momentum took him close to the stands. He then reached over a fence, grabbed a kid, and began to hoist him in the air, similar to something you would see when watching The Lion King, as other players showed up to celebrate. Elam even gave up the football to give the family a nice memento.
The youngster appears to be wearing a CeeDee Lamb jersey, one of the more popular players in the entire NFL. Who knows, maybe he might need a fresh one with Elam’s name on the back.
You can check out the full scene from Oxnard here. The official Dallas Cowboys X account brought the clip to social media, showing what can happen if fans show up to watch the team practice.
While the social media team is thankful Elam produced a clip, the Cowboys coaching staff will be happy to see the cornerback performing well. It’s a position where there are a ton of question marks heading into the 2025 season. Elam is one of the favorites to start opposite Daron Bland for the season opener against Philadelphia due to Trevon Diggs‘ injury.
The Cowboys brought Elam in after he spent the first three seasons of his NFL career in Buffalo. Expectations were high after being a first-round pick. However, nothing could really materialize for Elam. In 29 career games played, just 12 of them were starts.
Finding a way to replicate this practice rep and get an interception once the season starts is likely a goal for him as well. To find Elam’s last forced turnover, you have to turn back to the 2023 Wild Card Round against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was on the other end of a Mason Rudolph pass, helping the Bills advance.
Elam will take the one he got off Prescott for now, though. Competition for a starting spot will continue in the coming days and even once preseason games get underway. Maybe some more fans will be brought onto the practice field to celebrate the Cowboys defense making a nice snag.
