Most people who are fans of the Kansas City Chiefs likely love Kansas City. What’s not to love about this Midwest hotspot? But, not everyone is a Kansas City fan.
One Detroit Lions star recently went on his podcast and said some tough comments about Kansas City. He sounds like he was being nice about it, but still.
At least guys like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce seem happy in Kansas City. With the Chiefs having so many Super Bowl titles to their name, any NFL player should be happy to get selected to play in Kansas City, but this Lions player is appears to be glad that he wasn’t.
Detroit Lions Player Throws Shade at Kansas City
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the best players in the NFL in his position, so he’s popular in the league. He made some comments about the city of Kansas City during a June 18 episode of his podcast, the St. Brown Podcast.
St. Brown and his brother, Equanimeous St. Brown, chatted with Houston Texans rookie receiver Jaylin Noel on the show. The guys discussed the Midwest, and that’s how the topic of Kansas City surfaced. Noel is actually from KC.
“I’ve been to Kansas City; I was there for the draft,” St. Brown said on the show. “Bro, I’m sorry. If you have money, I’m not living here after I get some money.”
That hurts, but to each their own. St. Brown is in Detroit, so he must think differently about that Midwest town, but boy, does it get cold there in the winter. I know this from personal experience. Also, don’t hate on St. Brown too much. He’s just voicing his opinion about the city and said that it wasn’t his cup of tea.
What’s cool, though, is that the Chiefs will host the Lions in October, so St. Brown will get a real taste of the city. Maybe he’ll change his mind on it.
In a June 24 piece for Arrowhead Addict, Leigh Oleszczak also looks on the bright side of St. Brown lightly dissing the city. “Truthfully, it’s not the end of the world that St. Brown feels this way,” he states. “In the same way that people in Kansas City like the city because of its size, others, like St. Brown, don’t mesh with it for opposite reasons. St. Brown wants a city where there’s more to do and that’s totally fine.”
One Player Happy to Be in Kansas City
In other news, there’s one player with the Chiefs who’s likely happy to be back in town. In a recent feature, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report lays out a roster of NFL players who are returning in 2025 after injury. One of the Chiefs’ players is on the tally in wide receiver Rashee Rice.
“As long as the Kansas City Chiefs have Andy Reid on the sideline and Patrick Mahomes under center, we’re going to enjoy watching them,” Knox states in the piece. “However, the team’s 16th-ranked offense wasn’t quite as entertaining in 2024 as it has been in years past.” He thinks Rice will remedy that.
