Fans should be worried if the 49ers pursue this action after Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos both suffered injuries in the preseason finale.
The San Francisco 49ers suffered a bit of a scare on Friday night when they were busy engineering a 24-24 preseason tie versus the Las Vegas Raiders.
Defensive linemen Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, two free agents who were signed to bolster the team's pass rush, suffered injuries and were ultimately ruled out of the game with what were revealed to be knee sprains.
After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that on-field tests (these are pretty accurate) revealed no ACL tears but that both players would undergo MRIs within the next day or so.
Fortunately, despite the scary incidents, both players were subsequently viewed on the sidelines with their teammates, and neither was observed walking with a limp or any assistance, suggesting the team ruling them out was more precautionary than anything else.
The Niners should feel optimistic about both players being healthy and ready for Week 1, a Monday night game against the New York Jets on Sept. 9.
But, if San Francisco acts a certain way, it could be a sign Floyd and/or Gross-Matos is dealing with something potentially more serious.

The 49ers are notably thin in the pass-rush department behind All-Pro Nick Bosa, and the next players up would be Robert Beal Jr. and Alex Barrett, should Floyd and Gross-Matos suffer any sort of lengthy absence.
While Barrett has arguably had his best preseason ever as a pro, he's not a go-to stopgap measure, and Beal is notably unproven, too.
Over the weekend, leading up to roster cut-down day on Aug. 27, if the Niners end up working out defensive linemen and/or sign a still-available pass-rusher on the free-agent market, it would be a potential sign of trouble, as Niners Nation's Kyle Posey pointed out postgame.
Doing so could indicate either pass-rusher might miss regular-season time.
But, if San Francisco stays pat with its roster and takes no action here, it's probably a sign both Floyd and Gross-Matos will be ready to go for Week 1.
