The RHOBH cast member shared the update as she anticipates empty-nester life.
Kyle Richards isn’t an empty-nester, but she’s “definitely heading in that direction.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mom revisited the subject in her latest Amazon Live stream as she shared a quick update on her daughter Portia Umansky’s college plans. Kyle was responding to a comment about empty-nester life and clarified only half of her daughters were living outside her Encino abode.
“Well, I still have two daughters at home,” she said during the January 21 broadcast. “But, yes, I am definitely heading in that direction because Sophia [Umansky] just turned 25 on Saturday [January 18], but she doesn’t plan on leaving home yet, which I am so grateful [for]. Alexia [Umansky], left home when she was 27, almost 28. And Portia is 16.”
Kyle teases Portia's fast-approaching college search
Kyle said her youngest daughter, Portia — whom she shares with Mauricio Umansky — will turn 17 in March and is already gearing up for her college admissions journey.
“You guys, I’m going to be looking at colleges with Portia,” she said. “This is crazy.”
Kyle — who also has a 36-year-old daughter, Farrah Brittany, from a previous marriage — admitted she occasionally gets a taste of empty-nester life, as her two youngest girls have become increasingly independent.
“I will get there one day,” she continued. “But they do go out a lot and they’re busy a lot, so I already know what that feels like to be an empty-nester, which is really weird.”
Kyle reveals Portia's top school choice and potential major
The RHOBH cast member spoke about Portia’s post-high school plans in a September 2024 Amazon Live stream, revealing her teenage girl has her eyes set on Florida.
“She wants to go, she thinks, to the University of Miami for sports management,” Kyle said. “She was a manager of the boys’ tennis team and the basketball team, and now she’s just like, ‘I like to boss people around.’”
Nurse Jamie, Kyle’s friend and Amazon live guest host, described Portia as “a little pistol.”
“She definitely is,” Kyle replied.
Kyle says she and Portia will start touring colleges in the spring
So, when exactly will Portia start visiting colleges and universities? According to her mom, the search begins in the upcoming months. Kyle confirmed this in November 2024, when she appeared on the Tour de Wives panel at Bravo Fan Fest.
“I started this show when Portia was in diapers and sleeping in a crib. You saw Season 1, I was laying in a crib with her trying to get her to sleep,” Kyle said. “Now we’re going to be touring colleges in the spring.”
