The Los Angeles Lakers are getting some good production of late from rookie guard/forward Dalton Knecht, who stretched his double-digit scoring streak to three games during Saturday’s 104-99 win on the road over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The former Tennessee Volunteers star dropped 27 points in that contest, shooting 10-for-17 from the floor and hitting five 3-pointers on 10 tries from behind the arc. In addition, Knecht had seven rebounds and two assists plus two steals in 37 minutes of action on the court.
Over the last three Lakers games, Knecht has averaged 20.0 points on a sizzling 63.9 field goal percentage and 63.2 percent success rate from behind the arc.
Following the Pelicans game, Los Angeles big man Anthony Davis, who had 31 points against his former team, spoke highly about his rookie teammate.
“Every time he shoots the ball, we think it’s gonna go in, Davis said about Knecht (h/t Lakers Nation). That’s why we get so frustrated and upset when he doesn’t shoot. He’s a great player,” Davis added.
Los Angeles Lakers rookie Dalton Knehcht is in a groove
Knecht is not going to sustain that kind of scoring average on that type of efficiency in the long run, but he’s clearly making a big statement with his recent play. So far in the 2024-25 NBA regular season, Knecht is averaging 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while posting a 60.8 effective field goal percentage.
It will be interesting to see whether Knecht can stay hot and produce significant numbers again this coming Tuesday when the Lakers host the Utah Jazz at crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
