No one truly knows Rodgers’ next move, but if there’s anyone who might have a clue, it’s his longtime friend and former teammate, Davante Adams. The two dominated together for years in Green Bay and briefly reunited with the New York Jets in the 2024 season before everything fell apart. Adams is now with the Los Angeles Rams, but his connection with Rodgers remains strong. During a recent conversation with veteran reporter Mike Silver, Adams may have dropped a subtle clue about Rodgers' plans.
Appearing on the Scoop City podcast Monday, Silver revealed that Adams believes Rodgers is simply waiting for a red carpet. It's a cryptic phrase, and no one’s quite sure what it means—maybe Rodgers wants full control, maybe he’s waiting for the perfect situation, or maybe he just wants to make a dramatic entrance. Either way, if the Steelers are still in the mix, they might need to roll out more than just a welcome mat.
"The second thing Davante told me was, I think Aaron wants someone to roll out the red carpet for him," Silver said. "That is what he is looking for. I'm not sure if he would consider the Steelers doing that right now. I'm not positive how Aaron perceives that or how the Steelers perceive that."
That quote from Silver about Adams says a lot without really saying anything concrete. It’s the kind of vague, intriguing detail that sums up the entire Rodgers-Steelers situation. If Adams is right and Rodgers is waiting for someone to roll out the red carpet, the question is whether the Steelers would even be willing to do that. Mike Tomlin doesn’t come off as the type to cater to anyone, especially not a quarterback who's nearing the end of his career. However, Tomlin is a big fan of Rodgers and would likely defer to him in many instances.
Rodgers has always done things his own way. He keeps everything quiet until the last possible second, then drops some cryptic comment or appears on a podcast to stir things up. That might work for him, but it doesn’t help a team like the Steelers that’s trying to figure out who the starter is going to be for the 2025 season. They have Mason Rudolph and appear to be comfortable with him. Though, he's not their top option.
The other part of this is simple. Rodgers would most likely be a one-year rental no matter where he ends up. He’s not getting younger, and he’s not going to a team to rebuild. So how much control could he really expect? Even if Pittsburgh did want him, they’re not about to hand him the keys or reshape the entire organization for a guy who might retire after the season.
Steelers Not Going To Give Aaron Rodgers A Red Carpet
This is just not how the Steelers operate. This is a franchise built on stability and toughness, not big-name drama or chasing headlines. If Rodgers expects some special treatment or a hero’s welcome, he might be looking at the wrong team. Pittsburgh expects you to show up, work hard, and earn respect.
Until Rodgers says something real or makes a move, this situation is going to keep floating around in rumors and half-truths. Steelers fans want clarity. The team clearly does too. However, unless something changes, it feels like Rodgers is still sitting back and waiting, and Pittsburgh might not be waiting with him much longer.
