The Detroit Lions' one-two backfield duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs has been the rocket fuel for Detroit's 13-2 season as coach Dan Campbell's team prepares to face the 49ers on the road this upcoming Monday.
The Lions were the NFL's Super Bowl favorites recently until the injury bug began to bite key players including linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, cornerback Carlton Davis III, defensive tackle Alim McNeill and others.
On Monday, Montgomery teased a potential return from injury with a post on his Instagram page that has fans talking.
"Soon," Montgomery wrote in the top left corner of his Instagram story with a white "heart" emoji on Monday as news broke of his latest injury update. The short message was accompanied with a photo of the Lions running back running downfield attempting to a catch a pass over his shoulder.
Montgomery suffered an MCL injury in Week 15 that was originally deemed season-ending. He is hoping to return in time for the NFL Playoffs and may not miss a single playoff game if the Lions secure a first round bye.
"He now is going to rehab with a realistic goal of being back for the divisional round of the playoffs," report Ian Rapoport said about the Lions runner.
"So about a month from now for Montgomery."
