The Detroit Lions re-upped with one of their star offensive players on Saturday, October 12, when they signed running back David Montgomery to a two-year contract extension worth north of $18 million total.
NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news via an X post on Saturday night.
"Lions RB David Montgomery reached agreement on a two-year, $18.25 million extension that contractually ties him to Detroit through the 2027 season, per source," Schefter reported. "The deal includes $10.5 million in new guaranteed money. Montgomery had two years left on his current deal. Detroit taking care of its own early."

The Lions signed Montgomery to a three-year deal worth $18 million total in March 2023, after the running back spent his first four professional seasons with the NFC North Division rival Chicago Bears.
Montgomery's new contract is reflective of what the now 27-year-old bruiser has meant to the Lions over his first 21 games on the roster.
His is the thunder to Jahmyr Gibbs' lightning as part of the Lions' two-pronged rushing attack. Montgomery amassed 1,015 rushing yards and 13 rushing TDs across 14 games during his first season with Detroit in 2023. He also caught 16 passes for 117 yards.
Montgomery has added 271 yards and 4 TDs on the ground in four games this year, as well as 9 catches on 9 targets for 94 receiving yards, per Pro Football Reference.
