Lisa Rinna reveals that her role as a cyber-bullying parent in Lifetime’s Mommy Meanest was inspired by her many years of being trolled by RHOBH fans.
“They got really mad about it, “they” being the fanbase, and they didn’t know why. I don’t think they understood why,” Lisa Rinna said on The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet podcast. “They all of a sudden hated me, couldn’t stand me, wanted me off the show. Listen, I’ve been a very controversial character on that show for eight years.”
“I can honestly tell you I don’t think I did anything different this past year or the year I ended the show than I’d done any time before,” she continued, “It manifested in a great deal of social media hatred, like bullying, like death threats. Like, really intense, [more] than I’d ever seen.”
Lisa Rinna admitted she was perplexed by the intense hatred she received from fans during her final season of RHOBH, which included her getting booed by fans at BravoCon.
“I could not figure out why they turned so greatly during that time, and I can only come up with it was too painful for them to see it and feel it, and they were like, ‘You need to go. That’s too much,’” she said. “And so I got this barrage of hate and vitriol that I’d never seen before. And I’ve seen a great deal of it, but this was another level. And I also think it’s, you know, where we are in society and what’s going on in the world. It was like this perfect storm of hatred.”
In January 2023, Lisa Rinna announced her exit from RHOBH after eight seasons on the show. The former soap star joined the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2014 during season 5. She remained a full-time cast member on the show until her exit following season 12.
Since exiting the Beverly Hills Housewives franchise, the 60-year-old has said she will never return to the series.
