Matt LaFleur responds to Matt Eberflus after complaint to NFL about last-second FG block in Packers-Bears
By the way the game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears ended on Sunday, it would obviously have some type of controversy. And it came in the form of a complaint by the Bears to the NFL , trying to indicate that Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks had direct contact with long snapper Scott Daly to block Cairo Santos' kick.
"We had to be firmer inside," Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said on Monday. "We'll turn the play in because obviously they were on our long snapper. So, we'll turn it in and see what the league says from there."
Actually, Brooks didn't directly contact Daly, but tackle Matt Pryor instead. However, there was contact with Scott Daly from TJ Slaton after a moment.
Matt LaFleur's response
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about the topic on Monday, and he didn't address the play and the call directly. His answer was more of an overview about the approach of situations like these with referees.
"I've seen a lot of plays where I thought a penalty should've been called, and it doesn’t happen, so I’ll leave it at that,” LaFleur stressed. "I thought there were multiple plays in that game, it happens. That's why I never want to leave it in the hands of the officials. You've got to stay out of those situations as best you can."
The fact is that the result of the game won't change, it just might be a point of emphasis in future situations — for both sides.
