In a recent appearance at the San Diego Comic Con, his upcoming co-star in The Fantastic Four Vanessa Kirby, warmed the hearts of many fans when she was seen possibly calming the Game Of Thrones star by holding his hand. However, some of the unempathetic social media comments to this video have made other viewers air their frustrations about the ignorance that exists in the awareness of men’s mental health.

But under this stupendous success lies years of vulnerability and challenges that Pascal has faced to get to the top. In a 2019 interview with The Guardian (via Mitu), the celebrity candidly opened up his heart to fans about his challenges with anxiety.

The emotion was a significant part of his childhood that also impacted his life later as he aspired to become a professional actor. The Last Of Us star revealed that he went through years of extensive therapy that took him to a place where he was able to co-exist with anxiety without letting it detrimentally affect his career.

Anxiety is something that I’ve lived with since I was a child, so it’s a part of my chemistry. I don’t know what kind of person I’d be without it. It’s something that I manage, but it’s also part of what makes me, me.

I know that I have to put myself in high-stress situations to be happy. I mean, within reason. But there’s a certain level of anxiety that helps me do good work. It helps me be aware of the things I need to be aware of.

In an appearance for the promotions of The Last of Us with Bella Ramsey, Pascal was seen revealing to his co-star (via Deadline Hollywood) on why he would always put his left hand on his stomach to combat feelings of anxiety when he was in public. Fans who would have noticed this gesture many times during red-carpet appearances would now understand the deeper context behind the act.

The two celebrities will be sharing screen space in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with Pascal playing Reed Richards aka Mr, Fantastic, and Kirby portraying Sue Storm. In a recent appearance by both actors at the San Diego Comic Con, the Mission: Impossible star’s thoughtful and sweet gesture towards her Marvel colleague, won her many hearts.

In a video clip, Pascal is seen touching Kirby on her shoulder, who then takes his hand and holds it tight. This was seen by many viewers as a wonderful moment in which the Pieces of a Woman actor was aware of Pascal’s battles with anxiety, and was possibly calming his nerves by holding his hand.

Unfortunately, there were many insensitive netizens who interpreted this in a twisted manner and severely trolled Pascal for allegedly taking advantage of the situation.

Following this backlash, other viewers took to the internet to call out these ruthless trolls for their opinions. Many fans rued the fact that social media had created such monsters. Others regretted how people failed to recognize the importance of mental health in men, especially with stars like Pascal being vocal about it.

Judging by the outpouring of affection and support for the Chilean star, there is no doubt that no amount of trolling and scathing criticism can take away his stature in Hollywood. His loyal fan base is ample proof of that.
