Miami Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel Offers Grim Odell Beckham Jr. Update

It might be a while until the Miami Dolphins get to see Odell Beckham Jr. running routes alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Miami Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel Offers Grim Odell Beckham Jr. Update

Beckham Jr. remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and it doesn’t sound like, according to head coach Mike McDaniel, the star wide receiver is anywhere close to being ready to be activated and start practicing.

“[If] you learn how we do something a certain way, you have a visual that when you go and do it physically, and then you can adjust and learn quickly — it really hurts the learning process if you do it and can’t do it again,” McDaniel said. “So, that’s where we’re at with that.”

According to McDaniel, Beckham won’t practice this week ahead of the Dolphins’ preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“So, I’m not rushing the process,” McDaniel said. “I’m not worried about it because I know the intent is right on both sides.

“[I]t’s been a continued progression. But we’re just being very deliberate about it.”

Beckham Jr. flashed his ability to still be a playmaker capable of making an impact, catching 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns from Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson last season, despite only appearing in 14 games.

In Miami, Beckham Jr. is likely to merely be a supplemental weapon in an offense that already includes Hill and Waddle, as one of the premier receiver duos in the sport, as well as capable running backs in Raheem Morris and De’Von Achane.

Still, it doesn’t sound like we’ll be getting a glimpse of Beckham Jr. and how he fits in quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s supporting cast in the near future.
