Mike Tomlin not concerned with Steelers' glaring hole on offense

Entering the 2024 season, many questioned the talent behind Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. Those questions aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Pickens has lived up to expectations thus far, reeling in eight catches for 114 yards, but the same can't be said about the rest of the room.

Through the first two weeks, wide receivers not named George Pickens have combined for just five catches for 28 yards and zero touchdowns.

However, when asked if he's concerned with the lack of production behind Pickens on Monday, head coach Mike Tomlin said, "I'm not."

Part of the reason Tomlin might feel that way is because Pittsburgh has yet to lose a game. That doesn't mean the offense has been pretty to watch, though.

Heading into Week 3, the Steelers offense averages the third-fewest passing yards per game (121.5) and seventh-fewest points per game (15.5) in the NFL.

That's unlikely to change this week as the Los Angeles Chargers allow the fewest points per game (6.5) and sixth-fewest passing yards per game (147).

So, with Pittsburgh showing little to no interest in exploring outside options at wide receiver, rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson could be the last hope for now.

Wilson, a third-round pick by the Steelers in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury during the beginning stages of training camp.

After logging his first full practice last week, he said he feels ready.

"Yeah, definitely. Like I said, I've just been working a lot, just trying to get back into it," Wilson said. "I feel like even the moment I got here, I felt like I could find a way to push through it and come back that same week and practice the next day. That's just my mindset."

Expecting an immediate impact from Wilson could be far-fetched out of the gate. Still, he registered 48 catches for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final year at Michigan and could provide the extra playmaker Pittsburgh's offense needs.
