The Kansas City Chiefs did not rest on their laurels after winning their second consecutive Super Bowl in February to cap off an impressive 2023 season. Instead, they reloaded and retooled for the 2024 season, drafting the fastest wide receiver at the NFL combine in Xavier Worthy.
Worthy was seen as the perfect pick for a Chiefs’ wide receiver unit featuring Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice. However, neither Brown nor Rice has Worthy’s blazing speed, making the Chiefs’ offense one of the most explosive in the league this season.
Fans got an early look at Worthy’s speed as he and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes linked up for a big play at Sunday’s training camp practice. In a video posted from KC Sports Network, Mahomes scrambled out of the pocket to his left and launched a bomb down the field, hitting Worthy for a touchdown.
It was a ridiculous throw by Mahomes, who threw it off-balanced, while Worthy used his speed to get behind the defense for a big play. The last time the Chiefs had a wide receiver with this type of speed was Tyreek Hill.
Worthy’s ceiling could be Tyreek Hill if he can develop as a rookie and be that big play threat in the Chiefs’ offense. Kansas City fans should get used to seeing more big plays from this duo as it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Worthy be in the Offensive Rookie of the Year convo.
