New Orleans Saints Linked to Signing 2,800-Yard Wide Receiver

The New Orleans Saints could look to add a veteran wide receiver around quarterback Derek Carr in what promises to be a wide-open NFC South race.

NFL Rumors: Raiders cut Hunter Renfrow, may join Saints QB Derek Carr

There might be an ideal option to reunite the Saints quarterback with one of his favorite targets from their time together with the Las Vegas Raiders,

Hunter Renfrow remains unsigned, and could be a worthwhile option for receiver-needy teams, such as the Saints, especially after Week 1 when newly signed veterans’ contracts don’t guarantee for the season.

The Raiders moved on from Renfrow as a cap casualty earlier this offseason, and is still looking for his next NFL home as Week 1 approaches.

How Hunter Renfrow Would Fit the New Orleans Saints

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put together a list of potential free-agent signings in the weeks ahead, including a Carr-Renfrow reunion with the Saints.

“Renfrow would be a logical addition for a couple of teams,” Knox writes for B/R. “The New Orleans Saints could look to reunite him with former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, and they lack proven receiver depth behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.”

Last season, despite battling through nagging injuries and amid wildly inconsistent quarterback play in Las Vegas, Renfrow caught 25 of his 37 targets for 255 yards, but is three years removed from a 1,000-yard campaign in 2021.

The Saints could be looking for consistent production from a third option, after 11th in passing offense last season, while averaging 234.7 yards per game.

Renfrow’s presence could also do wonders for boosting Carr’s consistency throughout the course of the season, as a venerable and reliable target in the slot.
