It's almost as if there was an age requirement for one to be eligible for the New York Jets' captaincy.
Tuesday's team vote yielded four captains for the 2024 season with an average age of 34 years. The quartet features the roster's two oldest players — 40-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers and 38-year-old punter Thomas Morstead.

The other two captains come from the defensive side of the ball. Linebacker CJ Mosley, who is 32, is the unit's oldest player while 26-year-old Quinnen Williams, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, is lone member of the quartet under 30.
All four Jets' captains have earned Pro Bowl selections at some point in their careers. Furthermore, Rodgers and Morstead have been key contributors to Super Bowl champion teams.
Rodgers and Mosley both earned Jets' captaincy status prior to the 2023 season with veteran gunner Justin Hardee representing the special teams unit as one of three named team leaders. Mosley has been voted a captain each of his five seasons competing for Gang Green.
Once Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, was lost for the season due to a Week 1 Achilles injury, New York tabbed Williams to assume the quarterback's leadership responsibilities. With Hardee having left the Jets in free agency this past offseason, Morstead has been voted to represent the specialists.
Morstead, who spent his first 12 NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints, was a two-time captain for the Black & Gold in 2014 and 2015. During training camp, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich suggested Morstead was deserving of Jets' Defensive MVP honors last year. Williams was officially voted as Team MVP in 2023.
