The Dallas Cowboys have made a slew of surprising moves this offseason. Between drafting Tyler Booker and Donovan Ezeiruaku, signing Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams and trading for George Pickens, it has been an eventful last few months.
There are still plenty of box office names available in free agency, including star cornerback Jaire Alexander. That could be the next big project for Jerry Jones.
There's one free agent that the Cowboys need to stay far away from, however. According to Fox Sports analyst David Helman, who appeared on 105.3 The Fan this week, that player is none other than future Hall of Fame pass rusher Von Miller.
The Cowboys would be foolish to chase Von Miller in free agency
"At his age, with his injury, not really. Between what (the Cowboys) did with Dante Fowler and then drafting Donovan Ezeiruaku, I feel pretty good about the edge rushers on the Cowboys roster, so (signing Miller) doesn't do a whole lot for me. "
With Miller entering his age-36 season, it makes sense why Helman wants Dallas to stay away. The eight-time Pro Bowler spent the last three seasons with the Bills, hoping to be the last piece for Buffalo to exorcise their Super Bowl demons. But it wasn't to be.
Helman makes a great point about the Cowboys having a wealth of pass rushers. On top of Micah Parsons, Ezeiruaku and Fowler, they also have second-round picks Sam Williams and Marshawn Kneeland, and former first-round pick Payton Turner.
The Cowboys need to address the cornerback position first anyway, as Helman pointed out. They should add a new defensive tackle and running back before another pass rusher.
While Miller brings a veteran presence that would benefit most teams, signing him would hinder the development of the team's young pass rushers. It is a crucial evaluation year for Williams in particular. He needs to see the field. Signing Miller would prevent that.
At 36 years old, it seems like father time has caught up to Miller. He might be the last man needed on another playoff contending team, but simply put, he would not be worth the price of admission. Maybe in years past. But not in 2025.
