As Green Bay Packers fans waited with bated breath, team president Mark Murphy approached the podium with the No. 23 pick in hand for a move that was over two decades in the making.
Murphy announced that the Packers would select Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden, ending a 22-year drought of never selecting a receiver in the first round.
The move was met largely with delight as fans united about their team finding quarterback Jordan Love some needed help at receiver.
"Finally," one fan wrote.
"Oh my god it finally happened," another fan wrote.
Golden was highly praised throughout the pre-draft process and was a favorite of one Packers fan: "I cant believe it i have wanted this guy all season Love has his number one wideout welcome to Green Bay Matt."
"We are so back," a fellow Packers fan wrote.
One fan borrowed from an oft-referenced LeBron James meme.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst received praise for finally bucking the trend of not investing at the position.
"I COULD CRY GUTEY ILY," one fan wrote.
Another fan was already working on a slogan for what will hopefully be a strong connection between the Packers quarterback and first-round wideout.
"LOVE is GOLDEN," they wrote.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport even chimed in with the rare move that he admitted he never thought he'd see.
"The crowd reaction was wild," Rapoport added.
While every team will revel over the weekend about their prospects, there is still plenty of work to be done in Green Bay before Golden truly lives up to his first-round status.
