The Green Bay Packers have had the most incredible run of quarterback play that the NFL has ever seen. They went from 15 years of Hall of Fame play from Brett Favre to 15 more years of Hall of Fame play from Aaron Rodgers. While it is far too early to deem Jordan Love a future Hall of Famer, it is easy to see that he is the next franchise quarterback in Green Bay, and he may be much better than just “good.”
Indeed, Love had the best first season as a starting quarterback in Packers history, a first season better than those of either his two predecessors:
Many felt that Love deserved to make the Pro Bowl last season, but he was overlooked in favor of six other NFC quarterbacks who may or may not have had better numbers than him:
The exciting thing is that, despite his being overlooked for accolades in 2023, Love is just going to keep getting better as he continues to grow as a player.
One NFL analyst even thinks he could win the NFL MVP Award next season.
NFL Analyst Suggests Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love as a Darkhorse MVP Candidate
In a recent article in which she lists her top Darkhorse candidates for the 2024 NFL MVP Award, Judy Bautista of NFL.com wrote of Love:
“Love’s ascension in 2023 amid the Packers’ second half and playoff performance makes him and his team early darlings for the 2024 season. Green Bay boasts a cast of young receivers who should continue to develop, and the running game should be improved with the addition of Josh Jacobs. A higher-scoring offense (the Packers ranked 12th in points last year) would boost Love’s profile even more.
“Love is certainly on the star track, with an eye-popping 32 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions in his first season as the starter for one of the league’s most high-profile teams.
“The only thing that could get in his way is that the Packers would probably have to topple the Lions and Jared Goff at the top of the NFC North for Love to get serious consideration. He, like Stroud, will not be a dark horse for very long, though.”
The most exciting thing about Bautista’s evaluation of Love’s MVP candidacy is that she says he “will not be a dark horse for very long.”
In other words, Love could be an MVP candidate for years to come, much like Favre and Rodgers before him.
What Green Bay Packers Jordan Love Has to Do to Win NFL MVP in 2024
Obviously, the easy answer to this question is to outperform all the other quarterbacks in the NFL. However, there is one more thing that he needs to do that will help his chances: win.
Of course, this does not fall completely on him. Football, after all, is a team sport. That being said, not many MVP’s come from 9-8 teams. If Love and the Packers play like they did in the second half of the 2023 season, and are able to reclaim the NFC North, or at least win 10+ games, Love will be in serious conversation for winning his first MVP.
Favre won three, Rodgers won four.
But as great as MVP Awards are, Love and the Packers have a more important goal in mind: winning a Super Bowl.
