One day after football returned, the NFL was shook as a four-time Pro-Bowler requested a trade. The Green Bay Packers have made it known that they’re prioritizing defense, with this individual being a perfect fit.
It’s unknown what the Dallas Cowboys asking price is, but every team in the NFL remains interested. As one of the best defensive players in football, it was no surprise to see Jordan Love try to recruit the 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Looking Back on Micah Parson’s Response to Jordan Love Trying to Recruit Him Last Season
In a lengthy post on social media, Micah Parsons officially requested a trade from the Cowboys. Having been with the team since 2021, Dallas has stated that they have no intentions on moving on from Parsons. Even though he requested a trade, it’s not one the team plans on honoring.
Ultimately, Dallas knows Parsons is a game-changing player. Whether he gives it his 100% or not remains to be seen, but he’s a difference making player unlike anyone else on defense. Parsons already has 256 career tackles, with 52.5 sacks in his first four seasons in the league.
Last year, it was no surprise to see Love try to recruit the 26-year-old. Parsons already has ties to the Packers, but he wasn’t having it once Love threw it out there.
The conversation began with Parsons asking the Packers quarterback who he’d like to see come to the organization. Love was quick to respond, “The dude sitting right next to me. That’d be pretty cool. You don’t think so?”
While the room was full of mostly Cowboys fans, Love asked Parsons how he felt about coming to Green Bay. Parsons responded, “I’m in one of them Druski 360 deals. I’m a for-lifer. I can’t go nowhere. Me and Jerry Jones, that’s my dog.”
The Irony of Micah Parson’s Comments
Clearly, Jerry Jones isn’t Parsons’s “dog”. The two sides weren’t able to come to terms on any sort of deal that made sense to both parties involved. The Cincinnati Bengals are undergoing a similar situation with Trey Hendrickson, as are the Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin.
While at this point it seems unlikely that the Cowboys are going to trade Parsons, the option remains on the table. It’s already confirmed that their relationship has diminished, with the four-time Pro-Bowler wanting a change in scenery.
It’s crazy how quickly things can change in the NFL. Parsons conversation with Love was held in February 2024. In roughly a year and a half, his connection with Dallas diminished that much.
Parsons missed four games last season, the most of his career. He still managed to record 12 sacks, just two less than he did in a full 17 games in 2023. The 2011 No. 12 overall pick would fit right into a defense ran by Jeff Hafley and the “Ball King“.
His statement lived true to his quote last year saying he was a “for-lifer”. Parsons wrote, “Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear that star on my helmet.”
