It has finally happened. The Green Bay Packers have agreed a huge contract extension with quarterback Jordan Love. It took longer than expected, but the two sides have come to a deal that ensures Love will remain in Green Bay long-term.
Love skipped practice at the beginning of training camp while the two sides finalized the deal, but he is now ready to go.
After finishing second in the NFL for touchdown passes, throwing 18 touchdowns with one interception in the final eight games, and putting together one of the team's greatest playoff performances, the Packers believe Love is their next franchise quarterback. This contract backs that up.
With padded practices up next, the Packers needed to get the deal over the line, and now they have.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it's a four-year extension worth $220 million. That's $55 million per year, tying the NFL record with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence. Per Rapoport, Love will receive a record-breaking $75 million signing bonus, all to be paid by December.
Love becomes the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

The Packers will be delighted. General manager Brian Gutekunst received plenty of criticism when he traded up to draft Love in 2020 despite a more urgent need at wide receiver. With three years to sit and learn behind Aaron Rodgers, Love showed enough in year one as the starter for the Packers to believe he is their next franchise quarterback.
Love threw 32 touchdown passes with 11 interceptions in 2023, including 18 touchdowns to just one pick in the final eight games. He then led the Packers to a famous 48-32 playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys, earning a near-perfect 157.2 passer rating.
Love had to wait for his opportunity, but his moment has arrived.
