Peralta played 133 games for the Dodgers last season. The 36-year-old had a relatively down campaign. Peralta hit .259 from the plate with 55 RBIs and 7 home runs. He had career lows in on-base percentage (.294) and slugging percentage (.381).

Before spring training, Peralta had latched onto a different National League team on a minor league deal. The veteran struggled while playing for the team’s triple-A affiliate. In 20 games, Peralta slashed .217/.341/.348 with eight RBIs and two home runs.

The Padres may be looking for a spark given their lackluster start to the season. The star-studded San Diego squad has gone just 23-24 through their first 47 games. They entered Saturday’s contests trailing the Dodgers by 7.0 games for the NL West division lead.
