The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived defensive tackle Jacob Slade with an injury designation, the team announced on Friday.
Slade suffered a knee injury on Wednesday. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he was being evaluated, and he did not practice on Thursday. He signed with the team in 2024, making the practice squad. The Steelers held onto Slade on their practice squad in case of injuries, but he did not get elevated for any games.
A native of Lewis Center, Ohio, Slade was a standout with the Michigan State Spartans coming out of college. He originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals while coming out of college and spent his time during his rookie year on the practice squad.
If Slade clears through waivers, he will revert to injured reserve, where the Steelers can keep him for the rest of the season or release him with an injury settlement that will allow him to sign elsewhere.
