Pittsburgh Steelers part ways with tough former Patriots offensive lineman

   

The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, according to the NFL Transactions page on Tuesday.

With OTAs a week away, the Steelers have two roster spots open to make moves as they see fit before that date. They will want a full depth chart of players to evaluate.

Smith was released by the Patriots earlier this offseason He was claimed off the practice from theGreen Bay Packersin the middle of the season.

A 2022 sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals, Smith has been all around the NFL over his first three seasons in the NFL. Over his first three seasons, Smith has played for the Cardinals, Packers, Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans.

Smith has played in 18 games and has started three games. One of those starts came last year as the jumbo tight end in the Patriots’ offense, a role he adopted late in the year. He has played at guard and center, making Smith a three-position versatile player over his NFL career.

He played over 200 snaps in his rookie season, but has not even played 50 snaps since that season. This move comes after the Steelers signed Gareth Warren out of rookie minicamp weeks ago.
