The Red Sox selected the Baseball Hall of Famer’s son, D’Angelo Ortiz, in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Tuesday. He was the 567th selection overall.

The 20-year-old is a Miami Dade Community College product who, unlike his father, bats right-handed and plays third base.

D’Angelo Ortiz was born on July 10, 2004 — three months before the Red Sox broke the “Curse of the Bambino” and won their first World Series in 86 years.

The elder Ortiz, affectionately called “Big Papi,” was an integral part of the Red Sox’s historic postseason run. The Red Sox slugger became a franchise legend and went on to become a three-time World Series champion.

David Ortiz retired in 2016 and joined MLB on Fox a year later as a part-time sports analyst alongside two of his biggest rivals — former New York Yankees Derek Jeter and Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez.

D’Angelo Ortiz wasn’t the only player with ties to the Red Sox that was drafted on Tuesday.

Lucas Ramirez, the son of beloved outfielder Manny Ramirez, was chosen by the Los Angeles Angels in the 17th round. He was the 502nd overall pick.

The 18-year-old outfielder and first baseman was drafted out of American Heritage School and committed to the University of Tennessee last year.
