REPORT: The Green Bay Packers Make $150 Million Investment On Defense

The Green Bay Packers seem to have a bright future on the offensive side of the ball.  Jordan Love and the extremely young but talented group around him has expectations through the roof in 2024 and beyond.

The defense on the other hand is at the “wait and see” stage.  The team invested heavily into revamping that side of the ball this off-season.  That investment included a new defensive coordinator, a new defensive line coach, and a new defensive passing game coach.

Of course, their Xavier McKinney signing was massive as well.  That signing contributed to an insane amount of money being spent on the defense this season.

“Play style’s important to me and how fast we play and physical and attacking the ball and all that stuff,” Hafley said recently. “But the only way to do that is they’ve got to know what they’re doing. So, you teach all those things we talked about, then you learn the scheme and then you let them go play.”

Despite the importance of the scheme, it is the players who determine the outcome.  Hafley will look to get the most out of his players and this revamped defense in 2024.

Will The Packers Defense Finally Live Up To The Hype?

During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected 11 players, six of whom were defensive players. The new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley will now have some young athletic players to utilize on top of the cornerstone players already in place.

A message from Hafley has been sent with the selections of Edgerrin Cooper, Javon Bullard, Ty’Ron Hopper, Evan Williams, Kitan Oladapo, and Kalen King.

This defense is going to play fast and hit offenses hard.

I want a defense that’s going to be confident, and it’s not going to be nervous about making mistakes. Play-style is important to me and how fast we play, physical, and attacking the ball. All that stuff, but the only way to do that is they’ve got to know what they’re doing,” said Hafley.

“What a pro. How hard he works, the communication, the way he is in meeting rooms, the way he looks out for the younger guys. I mean that’s the stuff you don’t see. All the stuff I explained to you in my first meeting, we think he can do all of those things, and he’s shown that he can. You don’t find out really about somebody, who they are, and how hard they work until they get here.

That’s the thing that’s probably made us the happiest.”

After years of being let down by the defense, Packers fans are once again excited to see if this is the year the defense is a force to be reckoned with.
