Saints Release Veteran Quarterback After Drafting Tyler Shough

New Orleans makes a roster move at quarterback after the drafting of Tyler Shough

Veteran quarterback Ben DiNucci was released by the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday morning.

The news was revealed by DiNucci himself, through a post from his account on X.

''The NFL is a tough business. Always has and always will be. Got released by the Saints this morning. Control what I can control and go back to work''

DiNucci, 28, was signed by New Orleans last season after Derek Carr suffered a season-ending wrist injury in Week 14. He did not play a snap for the team.

A graduate of Pine-Richland High School in western Pennsylvania, DiNucci played collegiately for the James Madison Dukes. He was a seventh-round choice by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft.

DiNucci was with the Cowboys through the 2020 and 2021 seasons. His offensive coordinator both years was Kellen Moore, the first-year head coach of the Saints. He appeared in three games with one start in 2020, completing 23 of 43 passes for 219 yards.

DiNucci was selected by the Seattle Sea Dragons in the 2023 XFL Draft. He led the XFL with 2,671 passing yards while completing 72.7% of his throws with 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and guided the Sea Dragons to a 7-3 record and a playoff berth.

The Denver Broncos signed DiNucci in the spring of 2023. He'd spend the year on Denver's practice squad before being released the following offseason. He was with the Buffalo Bills before being released last training camp and eventually picked up by New Orleans.

DiNucci's release comes as little surprise.

The Saints drafted Louisville Cardinals quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round with the 40th overall choice last weekend. Shough joins Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener in the New Orleans quarterback room, with QB Derek Carr also on the roster currently.
