The New Orleans Saints quarterback battle will be an intriguing one to watch over the next handful of months. There have been plenty of folks around the NFL world doubting rookie QB Tyler Shough in recent months.
According to head coach Kellen Moore, the competition is an active one between Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener. The latter is currently unavailable due to injury, though. The rookie has already turned some heads so far at practice for the Saints and could prove plenty of people wrong in his first pro season.

Ben Solak of ESPN pinpointed the QB competition in New Orleans as one of his "jobs with question marks." He is spot on with this evaluation of where the QB situation has gone for New Orleans in recent weeks.
Unlike the Colts' battle, I'm doubtful that this one is actually real. But according to new coach Kellen Moore, second-year pro Spencer Rattler will fight 2025 draft selection Tyler Shough for the QB1 spot following Derek Carr's retirement.
The tea leaves read to me thusly: The Saints were happy to spend another year with Carr at the helm, but then they got the bad news about his throwing shoulder, suspected his retirement and prioritized an early quarterback selection with Shough at No. 40. This coaching staff was not around when Rattler was drafted, and if it had real interest in him as a developmental starter, it wouldn't have taken Shough as highly as it did.

For Shough, he will be given every opportunity to win the starting job as a rookie. As the 40th overall selection, there is a fair amount of pressure on him to make an impact early on - as to prevent the Saints from going in a new direction at QB next offseason if this season is a struggle.
Regardless, making throws like he did at practice on Tuesday could help Shough make plenty of fans around the Saints fan base this year.
