Saints try to replace two fan favorite players in latest 2025 NFL mock draf

The New Orleans Saints are sitting at 3-7, so mock drafts are much more exciting than many fans expected, entering Week 11 of the 2024 NFL season.

Ryan Roberts of A to Z Sports released a two-round mock draft this week. New Orleans made some decisions for their future defense in the scenario laid out by him.

Saints take pass rusher

7. New Orleans Saints - Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State

Getting Carl Granderson a partner in crime should be one of the top priorities this offseason, especially with the quarterback and wide receiver classes being a bit lackluster up top. There is an argument to be had that Carter could be the highest upside overall prospect in the class if developed properly. -- Ryan Roberts

Carter is one of the top defenders in the class. You can argue that he is the pass rusher with the most upside going forward in the NFL, and he can change a defense as a whole.

I am intrigued by the Penn State product that is widely considered a guaranteed top ten selection in 2025. Cameron Jordan has struggled in 2024, and he could retire after this season.

Even if he doesn't, New Orleans needs a pass rush upgrade opposite of Carl Granderson, and Chase Young is an expiring contract that may not return next season.

Saints address safety position

40. New Orleans Saints - Nick Emmanwori, S, South Carolina

Tyrann Mathieu has played good football this season, but there is a truth that the Saints must address this offseason. He is 32 years old. He will be a 33 year-old safety next season.

It is tough to project that his level of play will continue going forward, and Emmanwori can be a piece to the defense in preparation of Mathieu's departure in the future. The young safety has prototypical NFL size.

Emmanwori projects as a versatile safety with the potential to make an immediate impact in the NFL. His combination of size, speed, and instincts make him an intriguing prospect for teams employing multiple defensive looks. While he excels in run support and man coverage, Emmanwori will need to refine his zone coverage skills to become a complete safety at the next level.

With his physical tools, production, and room for growth, Emmanwori has the potential to develop into a high-impact starter in the NFL. His tackling prowess and man coverage skills provide a solid foundation for a productive pro career. As he continues to refine his game, Emmanwori could become a defensive playmaker capable of changing the complexion of games at the highest level. -- NFL Draft Buzz

His versatility could be massive for New Orleans if they choose to select him in this year's draft. They lack depth behind Mathieu as well, and we do not know about Will Harris' future with the team.

Not to mention, he is an aggressive back end piece that is comfortable in man coverage. The fit makes tons of sense for the black and gold.

We will see how the Saints address major needs during the 2025 NFL Draft, but this mock draft gave an intriguing look toward a brand new defnswisve outlook for whoever is the defensive coordinator going forward.
