San Francisco 49ers Possibly Moving On From Superstar Before Trade Deadline

The San Francisco 49ers were a big topic before the 2024 NFL draft after rumors circled that their superstars, wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk could be traded during the draft to free up cap space. Luckily for 49ers fans, the trade did not happen, and the team will retain their star receivers for now. However, an NFL analyst suggests that San Francisco could still trade away one of the two receivers before the trade deadline in November.

San Francisco 49ers Could Trade Away Superstar

NFL analyst Mike Silver said Aiyuk or Samuel might still be traded before the deadline.

There’s still a chance Aiyuk or Deebo could be traded between now and the November deadline if the offer’s good enough and/or if things have devolved with Aiyuk.

These rumors all started just before the draft when ESPN analyst Dan Graziano suggested that the 49ers should trade Aiyuk to address other team needs.

To me, the most likely way this shakes out is Aiyuk ends up getting traded to a team where he’s the clear number-one wideout and where he can get the extension he wants, leaving the Niners to draft his replacement in the first round. That’s the cleanest way for them to address all of their other needs.

Which Receiver Is More Likely To Be Traded?

While the team did not end up making a move during the draft, it looks like they are still hesitant to give Aiyuk his desired extension. Samuel became a person of interest in these trade talks as well after several analysts suggested that Aiyuk has a better future upside than the long-time veteran, which means it’ll likely come down to who can produce more during the first half of the upcoming season.

When Will The 49ers Make A Move?

Even though these trade talks remain speculation, it seems to be a rumor that will not go away, at least until the team either signs an extension with one of the stars or ends up trading one of them for other needs. San Francisco will likely be listening to a lot of good offers for both of the superstars, which could lead to a serious shakeup in their receiving room. Do you think that the 49ers will trade one of their receivers before the deadline, or will they find a way to retain both guys and still have success everywhere on the field?
