San Francisco 49ers Receive Bad Injury News Immediate After NFL Draft

The San Francisco 49ers just completed the 2025 NFL draft and have figured out the new crop of young talent they wanted to bring onboard. However, there was some bad news waiting for them following the completion of the draft.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, 49ers safety Malik Mustapha is likely to miss some time to begin the 2025 NFL season due to a torn ACL that he suffered in the team's regular season finale last year.

"Delayed but significant injury news," Schefter wrote on X. "49ers safety Malik Mustapha, who was believed to be the replacement for free-agent safety loss Talanoa Hufanga, tore his ACL during San Francisco’s regular-season finale and is not expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 season."

This news is especially concerning after San Francisco lost Talanoa Hufanga to the Denver Broncos during the NFL free agency period this offseason.

Mustapha was drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft last year with the No. 124 overall pick. He played a key role right off the bat during his rookie season.

Throughout the course of the 2024 campaign, Mustapha played in 16 games. He racked up 72 total tackles to go along with an interception and five defended passes. At just 22 years old, he's a key piece of the future for the 49ers' defense.

San Francisco did bring in a safety during the 2025 draft. They selected Marques Sigle out of Kansas State and North Dakota State in the fifth round.
