Star Trek: Discovery's Blu del Barrio hopes to return as Ensign Adira Tal in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy or another Star Trek. del Barrio joined Star Trek: Discovery season 3 as Adira, who was part of United Earth's Defense Force in the 32nd century before they joined the crew of the USS Discovery. del Barrio also made history as the first non-binary actor and character in Star Trek history.
In an upcoming exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Blu del Barrio discussed Ensign Adira Tal's spotlighted role in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 9, "Lagrange Point", which was directed by Jonathan Frakes. With Star Trek: Discovery nearing its series finale, del Barrio says they "would love" for Adira to come back, potentially in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy or some other version of Star Trek. Read their quote below:
Adira is so young on Discovery that I would love for them to come back in some iteration of Trek in the future. I personally would love to do it. I love this character with all of my heart and they're very close to me. And I love Star Trek and everybody that I've worked with on this for four or five years. So I would love to come back in the future and in sort of iteration.
Blu del Barrio Has Lots Of Star Trek Story Ideas For Adira
Star Trek: Discovery has only scratched the surface of Adira's potential
Star Trek: Discovery season 5 wasn't originally planned to be the final season of the series. Screen Rant asked Blu del Barrio if there were plans they were aware of how Ensign Adira Tal's story might have continued in Star Trek: Discovery season 6. Read del Barrio's response and ideas for more Adira Star Trek stories below:
I don't know anything about how it was meant to progress. There was a myriad of things that I hoped for Adira. I always wanted Adira to go and to have some experience with the Mirror Universe. I always thought that would be really fun. I love the Mirror Universe, I really wanted to be a part of that. I would have loved to go back and see more of Adira’s story back on Earth. Like, before Discovery. I would have loved to learn more of the history behind that. I would have loved if they kind of followed Tilly’s direction of teaching. I think that would have been really cool. And they would be a really good teacher. Yeah, there was a bunch of stuff that was always in my head.
Much of Adira's Star Trek: Discovery story was linked to their relationship with Gray Tal (Ian Alexander), but Star Trek: Discovery season 5 moved Adira away from Gray to chart a new future for themselves. Adira got to see more action, and even became part of the USS Discovery's bridge crew in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, and there is a world of potential for the character. Hopefully, Adira will return in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, but this time as a veteran Starfleet Officer who has much to teach the cadets.
