The nominations for the TCA Awards were announced on July 9, and the second season of the 3D animated Trek series was among the nominees in the Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming category. Prodigy is competing with Doctor Who, Forever, Heartstopper, Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld, WondLa, XO Kitty, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in the family programming category. Prodigy was nominated for a TCA Award in 2023, but lost to Ms. Marvel.
Prodigy Creators are Grateful for the Nod
Dan and Kevin Hageman took to X (formerly Twitter) after the news broke of Prodigy’s nomination. The pair posted: “Thank you Television Critics Association #TCA for nominating [Star Trek: Prodigy] for Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming! Everyone involved put so much love into this series. Don’t forget to watch it on Netflix before it disappears into the ether.” The winners of the TCA Awards will be announced later this summer.
The Creators are Still Holding Out Hope
In May 2025, Netflix quietly passed on more Prodigy, leaving the motley crew of the U.S.S. Protostar without a home. The series follows a crew of young aliens working together after finding an abandoned ship. It first premiered on Paramount+ in October 2021 and later aired on Nickelodeon. Prodigy features the voices of Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, Brett Gray, Angus Imrie, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Kate Mulgrew, Bonnie Gordon, and John Noble.
Prodigy was removed from Paramount+ in 2023, making it the only Trek series not streaming on that particular platform. The show was then picked up by Netflix, which became the home of the first two seasons of Prodigy in July 2024. Due to the end of a licensing agreement, the first season of Prodigy was pulled from Netflix in June 2025. The second will be gone by Jan. 1, 2026.
When the news was announced in May, the Hagemans posted a message regarding the future of Prodigy via their X account, saying, “While the future removal of #StarTrekProdigy on Netflix is disconcerting, it has little to do with lack of viewership or anything nefarious. The license for S1 is up June 24, and S2 Dec. 31. We hold out hope someone will pick it up. The next generation of Trek fans deserve it.”
