Steelers' Calvin Austin III Sparks Controversy With Raw Truth About Disrespect

The Pittsburgh Steelers have heard the noise about the wide receiver room for a long time now. Many pundits are excited and intrigued to see what Aaron Rodgers can do in the Steel City for the 2025 season. However, not everyone is convinced the Steelers have given him enough weapons to succeed. While the team made a splash by trading to acquire DK Metcalf, they also traded away star wide receiver George Pickens, raising questions about the depth and overall strength of the receiving corps.

Steelers' Calvin Austin III Trolls Ref With Hilarious Message After Awful Call

The Steelers remain very confident in Calvin Austin III and second-year wideout Roman Wilson, seeing them as key pieces in the offense moving forward. Austin showed a ton of potential during the 2024 season, flashing speed, agility, and playmaking ability. Now, with a four-time league MVP like Rodgers leading the offense, Austin is eager to build on that momentum and take his game to the next level. The chemistry between Rodgers and the young receivers will be a storyline many will watch closely in the coming months.

In a candid conversation with Jeff Hathhorn on 93.7 The Fan, Austin opened up about the disrespect he’s felt along the way. His honesty sheds light on the challenges and doubts he’s had to overcome in earning his spot in the Steelers’ offense and in the NFL. Austin’s determination and raw truth signal that he’s ready to silence critics and prove he belongs as a key weapon for Pittsburgh’s revamped offense in 2025.

"Just having that confidence that any time I step on a field, no one can guard me," Austin said about his mindset. "Towards the end of the season, I really felt like that became my primary mission to show that when I step on the field in man coverage, I feel disrespected getting in man. I just have to show that."

In the 2024 season, Austin showed his ability to create separation and make big-time plays. He seriously impressed the Steelers' coaching staff, and his growth was a major reason Pittsburgh felt comfortable trading away Pickens.

Austin isn’t exactly sure what to expect in the 2025 season playing with Rodgers, but he’s ready to take another step forward and build off his 2024 performance.

"I’m not really sure what to expect," Austin said. "I just expect to go forward and be the best player I can be for the team."

Austin caught 36 passes for 548 receiving yards and added four receiving touchdowns in the 2024 season. He also made a significant impact in the return game, scoring a 73-yard punt return touchdown. His speed is incredible, and his route running is precise. Since Wide Receivers Coach Zach Azzanni arrived, Austin has made noticeable improvements in his game.

Steelers' Calvin Austin Looking To Thrive In Contract Year

Azzanni is a no-nonsense, high-intensity coach who demands the best from his players. Austin is a hard-working athlete, hungry to prove he can be a star in the league. Their strong working relationship has clearly paid off, and the results have been visible on the field.

Steelers fans are excited to see how Austin’s game continues to develop alongside Rodgers. Rodgers won’t hesitate to throw him the ball across the middle of the field, giving Austin more opportunities to shine in 2025. Austin will be a free agent after the 2025 season, so if he has a big year, he could earn himself a nice contract extension in the Steel City.
