Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger believes that Aaron Rodgers secretly wants another outcome to occur other than just signing with the Steelers.
Roethlisberger believes Rodgers secretly wants to join the Minnesota Vikings, even if the Vikings have not shown a ton of interest in him.
“I think Aaron secretly is still holding out for Minnesota, which is why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers,” Roethlisberger said on his “Footbahlin” podcast. “Why else would you go throw with DK and be working out and put it out, blast it to everybody that I’m throwing to these guys, but you won’t sign?”
Rodgers held a workout with DK Metcalf on Monday, sparking more thoughts on whether he would end up signing with the team. Team president Art Rooney II said they would not wait forever but would at least wait a ‘little while longer’, even if he never thought it would take this long.
Mike Tomlin gave what seemed like a true deadline, though it has not been communicated to Rodgers. For Tomlin, the line of demarcation would be training camp.
“In the spring, it’s about teaching and learning and getting familiar with players and making sure they get familiar with some of the things that we value. It’s not an evaluation time of the year for us. It’s certainly not a time of year where we’re focused on readying ourselves for the game action. Certainly, training camp would kind of be a line of demarcation in terms of that discussion. This spring is about teaching and learning,” Tomlin said.
That would put July as the deadline for Rodgers. Even Rodgers would be pushing it waiting that long, but he could end up dragging it out if he wanted to, just to see if any other options, such as the Vikings, would emerge for his services.
