Variety now reports that Gabriel Luna has joined the cast of The Terminal List season 2 as a recurring guest star. Luna, who plays Tommy in HBO's The Last of Us, will play Freddy Strain in the Prime Video series. Strain's role in season 2 is described as follows:
“Former SEAL Team 6 Senior Chief and current officer with CIA’s Ground Branch, Freddy Strain is a man of two worlds – equal parts elite sniper and dedicated family man. His belief that James Reece survived the events of ‘The Terminal List’ S1 will pull the ‘Most Wanted Man on the Planet’ out of hiding and back into the fray. Reece shows Freddy that desperate times can call for operating outside the lines, while Freddy’s commitment to family, country, and cause will help guide Reece on his path to redemption.”
The casting news accompanies a brief reveal about season 2's production timeline, with filming expected to get underway in the next few weeks. The report also notes that Terminal List season 2 is based on Carr's True Believer novel, the second in the series. Filming on the spinoff, Terminal List: Dark Wolf, has already been completed, Variety reports, but that show doesn't yet have a release date.
What The New Update Means For Terminal List Season 2
When The New Season Could Release
With filming set to get underway on The Terminal List season 2 in the near future, the season's release date is likely still quite a ways off. Audiences shouldn't expect to see season 2 hit Prime Video this year. With filming on the Terminal List: Dark Wolf spinoff now completed, though, that show will likely arrive before the end of the year, with a release date announcement probably on the horizon. Dark Wolf, a prequel, will chronicle the origins of Taylor Kitsch's Ben Edwards as he makes the jump from Navy SEAL to CIA, with Pratt's Reece confirmed to appear.
Our Take On Luna's Casting In The Terminal List Season 2
Freddy Strain Can Repeat A Successful Season 1 Character Dynamic
One of the best part of season 1 was the dynamic between Reece and Edwards, and though Kitsch seemingly won't be returning in season 2, Luna's Strain could end up occupying a similar role as Reece's ally. It remains to be seen exactly what awaits audiences with The Terminal List season 2, but more updates are likely to arrive over the next few weeks as filming gets underway.
